★Jacob is interviewing Thomas for a research assistant position.

J: Well, Thomas, your résumé looks fine. You've clearly had some experience in the kind of work we do here, and we are definitely looking for someone with some experience.

T: Yes, I've been working in qualitative research in different capacities for a few years now.

J: Why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself? What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in the future?

T: I suppose my goals right now are to continue on this career path and take on positions of increasing responsibility. Eventually, I'd like to take on a management role, after I've had some more time to build my skills. So I guess that's where I see myself down the road: managing and organizing projects.

J: And what do you think are the most important qualities in a manager?

T: That's an interesting question. I'd have to say leadership, and the ability to motivate people and make tough choices.

J: Have you ever taken on a leadership role in a team situation? We frequently work very closely in teams here and it's important to be able to work well with others and to lead when necessary.

T: Yes, there was a time, on a project I worked on last year, when I…
