★Jacob is explaining company benefits to a prospective research assistant, Thomas.
J: We think our benefits package is pretty competitive. We offer a cafeteria plan of benefits, so you can choose the ones that are most important to you. All employee benefits, except for stock options and vacation time, begin immediately.
T: That sounds great. What is your vacation policy?
J: You are eligible for vacation days after six months; then, you start accruing vacation days at the rate of two per month. Any days that you don't use in one year can be rolled over to the next. After two years with the company, you get three days per month. And, of course, even though you don't get vacation days during the first six months, you can take sick leave.
T: Fair enough. And I remember from the manual that you have a retirement plan and an employer matching program. I'm very happy about that.
J: Yes, I think it's a pretty good deal. I'm not sure what the cap is on employer contributions, but I can look that information up for you.
T: Terrific.
J: In addition to that, I think we've got a very open and welcoming corporate culture. We really do encourage innovative thinking, and we do our best to promote people from within, so this is a good place to start out.
